Body type

The Akita is a sturdy, strong build dog. They are massive ,but still proportionate to size. They are free of wrinkles and covered in a big fluffy coat. They have a very unique tail, it's wrapped in a full, or half curl. They resemble a wolf, in body features.

Head- The head is massive but in balance; free of any wrinkles or excessive skin. Head forms a rounded triangle when viewed from above. The ears are a noticeable characteristic of this breed. They stand erect and small compared to the rest of the head.
Ears have a triangular shape, with a slightly rounded tip.

Lips & Mouth - Black lips, and they come with a strong mouth that comes down like scissors. Often referred to as the scissor bite by how the jaws lap down.

Forequarters- Forelegs are heavy-boned and straight. Strong sturdy shoulders that moderately lay back make up the rest of the forequarters.

Body- Thick and muscular body that is comparatively short. The body is longer than high, with well sprung ribs and a well developed chest. Skin is flexible but not loose.

Hindquarters- Overall comparable to the forequarters. Upper thighs well developed. Stifle moderately bent and let down hocks.
Feet- Cat feet with thick pads.

Coat

They have a double coat that covers the whole body, Under coat is shorter, soft, and dense. Outer coat is harsh and stands off the body. The fur is longest on the rump and tail where it reaches over 2". They aren't extremely hard to groom, yet they shed heavy. You better be ready to get the lint rollers out if you are thinking of owning this breed.

Akitas are very protective of their family and anything else they stand for, they've been bred to be a successful hunter and protector. Health Problems

Akitas may experience bloat, or other gastric issues. It happens when the stomach twists, it requires immediate medical attention or other wise can result in death. They are also prone to have weak joints and have issues with hip dysplasia. Working with a responsible breeder helps minimize these risks.

Exercises

The Akita isn't a hyper breed, but still needs daily exercise. Physical as well with Mental exercise is a must, these exercise really helps this breed remain happy and excel in home lifestyle. Training must start at an early age for the best results, the Akita is an Independent thinker. They need a firm owner to show them right from wrong. Proper socialization helps this breed remain stable and become a loving member to any family.

Origin

Native to providence of Akita in Japan. this breed has been around for hundreds of years. It was a prized possession for Japanese royalty in the beginning as it was used to hunter large game and protect the palace. This breed is still a symbol of strength and recovery with heavy influences in present day Japan.
